Autumn 2021
Year 5 have been investigating the meaning of words from their spelling list today. Working in groups, the children had to decide which definition belonged to which word. We even had a special little helper
Every week, Year 5 and Year 1 meet together to enjoy Paired Reading. This is very enjoyable for our children as they get to develop their own skills as both a 'coach' and a reader. The Year 1 pupils read aloud to the Year 5 pupils to build their own confidence and reading skills. Furthermore, the Year 5 pupils are given the opportunity and responsibility to support the younger children with their phonics, decoding and comprehension.

Romeo and Juliet: Autumn 1
This week, we have began our journey into exploring the iconic and tragic tale of Romeo and Juliet. We went back in time, and overseas, to Verona Italy, where we learnt of this fatal love story. We are so excited to begin our writing!
As part of their work on Romeo and Juliet, Year 5 have been learning how to construct different sentences using relative clauses. The children worked in partners to use a relative pronoun to draft different sentence based on characters from the story. We created a class sentence bank, ready for us to use once we begin our drafting.
Autumn 2018
Welcome to Year 5 2018
We are excited to begin a new term and a new year. Keep posted on our fabulous English work this year!
We have two new pupils with Pen Licences - Well done to Owen and Honey :)
This half term we have been studying the Jabberwocky by the famous, classic author Lewis Carroll. We have prepare and performed The Jabberwocky. Check out our fantastic video!
In Year 5 this half term we have used Creative Writing week to write a newspaper report. We will then look at Haiku poems and write our own. Finally, we will end the half term by writing instructions on how to make a Christmas card.
Here are some of our draft Haiku poems - a Japanese poem of seventeen syllables, in three lines of five, seven, and five, traditionally evoking images of nature and the seasons. We visited the Imagination Station before we started to immerse ourselves in nature.
Using the Imagination Station to envelop us in the life of a Victorian street child and the hardship of living in an orphanage. We used our knowledge to help us in our writing, homework and our class assembly.
Here we are using Ipads to learn our spellings on a new program - Spellodrome.
Today we took a light-hearted approach to our learning by performing the 'Dinner Lady' song. Check out our rendition and some nifty dance moves!

Understanding and using contractions in our Grammar lesson
During our Grammar lesson in English, we used Ipads to scan QR codes to identify a variety of words.
The words were arranged into a sentence and then each word was placed into its own word class.
We really enjoyed this lesson!!
